The Mopan begins in Guatemala and flows through Benque Viejo town, San Jose Succotz and other villages, and joins with the Macal River in San Ignacio and both rivers form the Belize River, which runs into the Caribbean Sea. The Mopan River is the river that visitors to Xunantunich Mayan ruins are ferried across by the hand-cranked ferry.

The Mopan River was a very important water source for the people of the city of Xunantunich from around 600 AD To 1000 AD. Which the City sustained a population approximately 10,000 inhabitants. The village of San Jose Succotz was established by a group of contemporary Mayans settling along the river bank, due to the easy access to the river.

The adventure starts by with our tour guide, explaining to us everything about the river, the rapids and our PPE’s. We then jump on our tube, Canoe or Kayak and start enjoying the day.  After we pass the village, the river leads us into the jungle were we will be able experience a taste of the flora and fauna that Belize offers.
